Signia recently hosted a philanthropic event in Rio de Janiero, Brazil as part of our 18th annual International Symposium. The symposium is an educational program offered to our hearing care professional customers hosted by Signia staff on such topics as the latest in tinnitus therapies and advancements in hearing aid technology.
This year’s event included a unique opportunity to help those who have hearing loss but are unable to afford treatment. It was held in collaboration with local hearing care professionals in Rio de Janeiro, and in association with the Associação Brasileira de Assistência ao Excepcional (Brazilian Association of Assistance to People with Special Needs, or ABRAE). ABRAE, a 19-year-old nonprofit philanthropic foundation, is located in the São Gonçalo municipality of Rio and provides support to underprivileged Brazilians of all ages with physical or mental disabilities. The organization acts in partnership with the local City Hall to collect donations of prosthetics, orthotics, and hearing aids and distribute them to children and adults in need.
This year, Signia donated hearing aids through the ABRAE while our customers donated their time and expertise to provide expert fittings. Along with our partners in Brazil, a team of approximately 26 hearing care professionals and staff assisted in fitting 30 people in need of hearing aids. It was an overwhelmingly successful event with many happy tears and hugs shared by everyone involved.
We’d like to thank the ABRAE and all the hearing care professionals who came together to make this philanthropic event such a success!
